Hey, Digital Dreamers!
I just floated down from the tearjerker cloud after watching “The In Between,” and boy, do I have some thoughts! Grab your fave snack and settle in, because I’m about to spill the celestial tea on this otherworldly love flick.
So, “The In Between” is like if “Ghost” and “The Fault in Our Stars” had a movie baby. It stars Joey King, who’s basically the reigning queen of teen dramas, as Tessa, a gal who’s as cynical about love as I am about getting out of bed on Mondays. And then there’s the charming-as-heck Kyle Allen, who plays Skylar, the boy who might just make you believe in the whole “love at first sight” gig.
Their meet-cute is pure rom-com gold with a side of cringe — a chance encounter at a movie theater where the projector decides to take an unscheduled vacation. Fast forward through some adorably awkward moments, and we’ve got ourselves a love story, folks!
But because we can’t have nice things without a little heartache, the universe decides to throw a cosmic wrench into the works. Cue the waterworks and some serious ‘why, universe, why?’ vibes. After a tragedy that I won’t spoil (because I’m nice like that), Tessa’s left sifting through her grief and piecing together the mystery of whether the love she’s lost is reaching out from the “in between.”
Now let’s dive into the deep end — the feels. Joey King? She brings it. The girl can swing from quirky to gut-wrenchingly sorrowful in a heartbeat, and it’s a rollercoaster I didn’t mind riding. And Kyle Allen has this down-to-earth charm that kinda makes you wanna write love letters or something equally mushy.
The film itself? It’s shot with this dreamy, soft glow that’s basically Instagram’s Valencia filter come to life. There’s this ethereal quality to it that’s perfect for the movie’s whole ‘love beyond the grave’ vibe. And the score? Let’s just say it’s on my playlist, and now I can’t look at the stars without getting all misty-eyed.
But here’s the thing — “The In Between” treads a fine line between sweet and saccharine. Sometimes it hits the mark, sometimes it’s a bit like eating too much candy; a sugar rush followed by a crash. And the pacing can be as unpredictable as WiFi on a windy day. One minute it’s all go, and the next, you’re wondering what happened to the plot while you were blinking.
Also, if you’re not into the whole supernatural love connection thing, this might not be the flick for you. It’s a story that asks you to not just suspend disbelief but to shoot it into space.
But hey, if you’re in the mood for a good cry or a romantic cuddle with your pet pillow, “The In Between” is your ticket to Feelsville. It’s got enough heart to make you sigh and enough spirit to lift your… well, spirits.
So, snuggle up, pass the tissues, and let yourself drift into the sweet sorrow and star-crossed love of “The In Between.” I loved it!
Keep dreaming and streaming,
