🎶 It’s Here! Spectral Symphony Has Officially Hit the World 🎶

book cover for Spectral Symphony, young man in Fedora in front of Carnegie Opera Hall

Okay, I’ve been sitting on this news for a bit and trying not to be that person who blurts things out before coffee, but… I can’t help it.

Book two in my Lucien Knight series, Spectral Symphony, is officially out in the wild.
And yes, I am doing that awkward author thing where I pace the room, refresh browser tabs, and mutter, “Well… here we go.”

If you’ve already met Lucien, you know he’s a paranormal detective with a complicated relationship with ghosts, music, and his own past. If you haven’t—welcome. You’re about to meet a man who keeps trying to live a quiet life and keeps failing spectacularly.

🎼 So what’s Spectral Symphony about?

It starts the way bad ideas often do:
a terrified stranger.
a scrap of sheet music that shouldn’t exist.
and a sense that something has gone deeply sideways.

Lucien wants normal cases. Cheating spouses. Missing people who just don’t want to be found. Instead, he gets a ghost who won’t stop playing the piano, a violin note that echoes where no one stands, and a very prestigious opera house quietly losing its mind.

The music is wrong. Not “out of tune” wrong—dangerous wrong.

And as Lucien digs into what’s happening behind the velvet curtains of New York’s classical music scene, he finds obsession, ambition, murder, and secrets that refuse to stay buried. The deeper he listens, the harder it gets to tell whether the dead are warning him… or luring him in.

Also? His personal life is a mess. Because of course it is.

📚 Where you can grab it

Here’s the good news:

So whether you’re a digital reader, a “must smell the paper” reader, or someone who likes their shelves looking dramatic, you’re covered.

💭 Author confession time

I’m having so much fun writing these Lucien Knight books.

They let me lean into moody settings, sharp dialogue, queer characters who get to be messy and human, and supernatural mysteries that don’t play fair. Every time I start a new one, I think, okay, this is the one where I calm down—and then I absolutely do not.

I really hope you enjoy Spectral Symphony as much as I loved writing it. And if you already read book one and were wondering where Lucien would end up next… trust me, things are only getting stranger from here.

Thanks for reading. Thanks for supporting indie authors. And thanks for sticking with me while I keep unleashing haunted detectives into the world.

Guess What’s Finally Happening? Murder at the Savoy Is Up for Preorder!

Okay, deep breath. After talking your ears off about this one for what feels like forever, Murder at the Savoy—the first book in my Lucien Knight Mysteries series—is officially available for preorder! Cue the dramatic noir saxophone.

This series has been brewing in my head for ages: picture 1930s Chicago, a haunted nightclub, a skeptical detective with a knack for attracting the supernatural, and just enough danger to make you check behind your curtains at night. It’s detective noir with a paranormal twist, served with a splash of whiskey and a dash of ghostly menace. Lucien Knight is the kind of man who would rather mind his own business, but trouble (and the occasional ghost) keeps finding him anyway.

If you’re an ebook reader, the preorder is live and waiting for you—but if you’re more of a hold-it-in-your-hands kind of person, the paperback and large-print paperback are already up on my web store. And yes, for those loyal to the Big A, the paperback’s available on Amazon too (as always, the Large Print edition is a web store exclusive on my site).

It’s such a weird feeling seeing it out there—the book that’s been haunting my to-do list for months is now an actual thing you can buy. I’m equal parts thrilled, nervous, and slightly caffeinated. Below is the official cover reveal, which I am completely obsessed with. It nails that smoky, vintage atmosphere I’ve been chasing since page one.

Thanks to everyone who’s followed along while I muttered about plot holes, ghosts, and suspicious detectives in fedoras. You’ve been my sanity through the chaos.

OMG You Guys – My Book Just Dropped Today!

Hey friends! I’m literally bouncing in my chair right now because I have THE BEST news to share! My book “The Golem’s Guardian” just released today and I am freaking out with excitement! It’s available at all the online bookstores as we speak (paperback should be out in the next few days), and trust me, you’re gonna want to snag a copy ASAP.

I’ve been stressing over this manuscript for what feels like forever, and now it’s finally out in the world! I’ve been refreshing my notifications all morning, and I’m absolutely vibrating with nervous energy. You know that feeling when something you’ve poured your heart into finally gets shared? That’s what I’m experiencing right now.

So what’s my book about? Picture this: David Rosen is just your average Brooklyn librarian (which, like, already makes me happy because who doesn’t adore a bookish protagonist?). His life is pretty chill until—plot twist!—he accidentally brings a tiny clay figure to life in his apartment. Not your typical Tuesday night, am I right? Turns out, our guy David has inherited this wild ability from his Jewish ancestors to create golems, which are these magical clay protectors. How cool is that?

The world-building in my novel is something I really focused on. It takes place in modern Brooklyn, but with this hidden layer of ancient mysticism woven throughout. I’m such a sucker for urban fantasy that takes place in real locations you can actually visit. Makes you look at every corner of the city differently, wondering what magic might be happening when nobody’s looking.

As for the characters, David is this reluctant hero type who’s just trying to figure out his powers while also falling for Jacob, who I absolutely adore. Jacob’s this super charming social worker who gets pulled into David’s magical drama. Their relationship develops so naturally against this backdrop of supernatural chaos, and I’m totally here for it. The LGBTQ+ representation was super important to me—I wanted it seamlessly integrated into the story rather than feeling like an afterthought.

The villain—only known as “the Shadow”—was genuinely creepy and a lot of fun to write. They’re causing all sorts of supernatural problems across Brooklyn, and the stakes keep getting higher throughout the book. There’s this whole thing with a rare celestial alignment that’s coming, which will amp up everyone’s powers, good and bad. Talk about deadline pressure!

What really interested me as I wrote was how David’s power comes with a price. Every time he uses his golem to fight, it physically hurts him. I wanted a magic system that has real consequences. Did you know that the concept of golems dates back to medieval Jewish mysticism? According to the Jewish Virtual Library, the most famous golem story involves the Maharal of Prague, who allegedly created a golem to protect the Jewish community in the 16th century. You can read more about it here: https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/the-golem

I don’t want to give away too much (no spoilers!), but let’s just say there’s this scene near the end involving the golem and the Shadow that I hope will have you holding your breath. I literally had to take a walk after writing it because I couldn’t handle the tension!

I put so much research into the Jewish mystical elements, and I hope it shows. I spent months reading about golems and Kabbalistic traditions to get the details right. That authenticity was really important to me throughout the writing process.

So yeah, if you’re into urban fantasy with Jewish mythology, LGBTQ+ romance, and magical battles with actual consequences, you need to check out “The Golem’s Guardian” right this second. Grab a copy today!

Has anyone ordered it yet? I’m dying to hear what you think! Drop your thoughts in the comments because I need people to obsess over this book with me! The cover is below:

Back at It (Kind of), After My Accident – Because Stories Won’t Write Themselves!

Magical feather

Hey, friends! 👋

Sooo, here’s a tiny life update: I’ve been slowly making my way back to the blog after the little accident situation I found myself in. Yeah, that fun chapter of my life. 🙃 First off, I really appreciate all the good vibes and emails you guys sent over – seriously, it meant a lot while I was basically Couch Potato Extraordinaire™. But lately? Big news: I’m somewhat functional again! I can sit at a computer (and by “sit,” I mean kind of awkwardly balance and shift around like a rusty robot, but hey, progress is progress).

One of the first things I jumped back into, of course, was my book projects. I’ve got a couple of those marinating in the background 📝, and now that I can actually type again without looking like I’m fighting with the keyboard, I’ve been chipping away at them. Honestly, it feels SO good to be creating again. It’s like the world’s longest quiet stretch has been lifted, and I’m reconnecting with my brain’s weird ideas again. The rust isn’t cute, but you get it.

And speaking of writing, if all goes well (🙏), I’m hoping to resume weekly short stories starting next week! So, for those of you who’ve been missing those little inbox surprises (I see you!), keep an eye on your email. There will likely be some quirky, half-baked characters and chaotic plots heading your way soon. Yay! 🎉

That said, I’m still quite a ways from being fully recovered. My accident? Let’s just say it was not the kind of adventure I recommend (and 0/10 stars; would not sign up again). It’s been slow-going, and there are days where I can’t do much except stare longingly at my to-do list while becoming one with my heating pad. BUT! At least I can do the thing again. The writing. And that, my friends, is LIFE to me.

I definitely won’t be posting daily like I was when I was doing my movie-a-day challenge (what was I even thinking with that brain-melting commitment?!) – but maybe, just maybe, I’ll give that challenge another go next year. 🧐 We’ll see how it goes. Gently dipping my toes back in for now and trying not to faceplant.

Anyway, just wanted to pop on here and say that, yes, I’m alive. Yes, I’m writing again. And yes, you’ll be seeing some more action on this blog soon-ish. Not “movie-every-day” level action, but let’s start slow and see where it lands. 😅

Talk soon,
Your slightly stiff, slowly recovering, but excited-to-write storyteller

Keeping Corey is Available for Preorder!

Keeping Corey book cover. Young man in hockey gear stands behind seocnd young man with red hair.I am so excited! My latest book, Keeping Corey, is now available for preorder from online retailers. It’s a YA gay romance that takes place at a hockey academy and will be released on February 6, 2023. The synopsis is below:

After being outed at his last high school, Devin O’Hanlon’s parents enrolled Devin at the Grovesburg Hockey Academy, his father’s alma mater. Never mind that Devin doesn’t have an athletic bone in his body, nor has any interest in sports. The academy was supposed to be a fresh start for Devin — a clean slate where nobody knows him as the gay kid. Unfortunately, being a red-headed non-athlete singled him out with the bullies, and he found himself in the same predicament as his last school. Things only get worse when he learns that his new roommate, a transfer from another school, is a star hockey player—an incredibly hot star hockey player.

Corey Harper has been expelled from two schools. Grovesburg Academy is his last chance; if this doesn’t work out, his father has threatened to send him to military school. But Corey has no intentions of getting expelled again. This school is a new start for him — a place where nobody knows him or about his past. Despite a rough start, Corey and his new roommate Devin find they have a lot in common and soon become inseparable. But Corey doesn’t allow himself to get too close to Devin because he has a secret that nobody here must uncover—and Corey has mastered hiding his feelings. His plan is to keep his head down, do what’s required of him, and bring his academy to the championship. Can Corey juggle his junior year, hockey, a hostile coach, and his friendship with Devin, all the while keeping his secret hidden from everyone?

But when Corey’s secret is threatened to be exposed, he is forced to make a difficult choice—a choice that goes against his heart and his soul.

I had a blast writing it, and I hope you love it as much as I do. You can preorder from the following online stores:

Book Update on New Novel – Ghost at the Prom

I’m currently putting the finishing touches on the fourth book in the Ghost Oracle series, which will be entitled “Ghost at the Prom.” (Though the name is subject to change). I hope to have it up and for sale within the next couple of weeks.

In this book, Nick, our sixteen-year-old psychic medium, runs into an angry ghost at the prom who appears to be aggressively haunting another high school kid. Nick decides to help, and of course, things get pretty messy for our young medium.

The fifth book in the series should be about sometime later this year. I have most of it already written, so all that’s left is the editing process. After that, I’m planning on only one more book to wrap up the series. However, I may write a Nick Michaelson standalone novel from time to time.

The cover for the new book is below.
